Create your own paper from scratch with artist Maya Vanderschuit. This workshop will cover the basic techniques, materials, methods, and tools for recycled paper making. Through hands-on practice, learn preparation of raw materials, basic coloration methods, and pulp formation. Handmade cards offer a unique and personal touch, making them perfect for any occasion. Using stamps, specialty paper, washi tape, gelli pens, and more, students will create memorable cards that can be used throughout the year. Join us for a Starter Workshop in personal storytelling through art, designed to help you begin your own creative series.

This is an inspiring workshop based on Patric Stillman’s celebrated Project 55. In this one-day class, you’ll explore the power of personal storytelling through words and art while learning about Stillman’s journey of creating meaningful works that reflect his life and experiences. Guided by his process, you’ll create two unique paintings to start your own mini-series inspired by your life, your family, or other experiences. Supplies for two 6” x 6” paintings are included, so just bring your story ideas and creativity!

If you wish to continue beyond this starter workshop, you will be welcome to return and expand your series in a dedicated communal Art Lab. Details to be given during the workshop.

Event Description

Ty Bennett is a self-taught visionary artist whose intuitive-surrealist style is expressed through obsessive detail, density of imagery, and a vivid color palette. His paintings transform the unconscious into super-consciousness in the belief that art can transform the evil and suffering that is taking over the world by accessing the higher Self. His recent work is a response to a period of deep reflection after a devastating wildfire in Colorado that destroyed all his possessions including his art, as well as the additional burden of the loss of his parents. Painting with acrylic, oil, and house paint he combines words, abstraction, and figurative images, in an interplay on substrates of canvas, Masonite, wood, and repurposed cardboard.
