Event Description This class is perfect for absolute beginners or intermediate students., focusing on oil painting fundamentals. Students will learn essential tools, materials and techniques, with an emphasis on painting from observation using still life or references. A limited palette will help explore color theory throughout the course. A fee range of $40-$85 for materials is due to instructor at the first class. Materials to bring: Tote to carry supplies, a roll of Paper Towels Bring only the following manufacturer- Sennelier Vermillion and Da Vinci oil paints. The color wheel will not work outside of these. Event Description In this class you will be working with foraged materials, driftwood to seedpods, crystals, feathers, wire and clay. You should enjoy working with natural materials and your hands for this class! Allow the process to unfold as we learn together to be creative in non-ordinary ways. Event Description From Abstraction to Activism, presents the first major retrospective of this important artist's work since his passing in 2022. The exhibition, presented by the Hyde Art Gallery at Grossmont College where Lum taught for over two decades (1972-1995), showcases his most politically charged works, created during the last twenty years of his life. Spanning six decades, Lum's powerful artistic legacy culminated in works that directly confronted pressing social and political issues: the Jim Crow South, Asian American discrimination, forced institutionalization, post-9/11 American foreign policy, and the Middle East conflicts. While these later works represent his most overt political statements, themes of social justice thread throughout his career, beginning with his earliest abstract paintings of the 1950s.
