Event Description THE BRONOWSKI ART & SCIENCE FORUM Presents: The 7th Annual Members “Show & Tell” Thursday, June 4, 2009, 6:30 PM The Trustees Room, The Salk Institute This year’s “Show & Tell” will feature 13 amazing individuals; a showcase of our talented members. The diversity of our members is acknowledged by this annual event and it is an opportunity to pay tribute to their creativity. This evening will offer an opportunity to chat and socialize with all our members. I encourage all to attend and support our “talent”. It will be a very entertaining evening. Paul Stark will perform a 3 minutes Bach Prelude in C-major for solo cello. John Pollard "Using Fine Art to Build Retail Foot Traffic. An experiment in progress: The "Clock Doctor” of The Purple Clock Shop in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. A variety of Antique clocks are displayed in a home style setting in a stand alone building on the fringe of Down Town Coeur d'Alene. Kaz Maslanka “Mathematical Poetry”, an artistic expression created by performing mathematical operations on words or images as if they were numbers. One may find this baffling because it seems we are confused about knowing the difference between the states of quality versus quantity. But it is through the fusion of this dichotomy that mathematical metaphor is spawned. Mathematics has always been used for denotation. However, our interest is to use math as a language for connotation. Patricia Frischer New Sculpture “Singularities” Cecie McCaffery: "My paintings are acrylic and mixed media with emotive, symbolic images and colors. The recognizable images are of the, personal yet universal, themes of change, courage and hope. Many have a version of me in surreal landscapes or situations often interacting with benevolent yet not completely benign creatures." Jim Respess: “New Artwork” Jason Rogalski "Walk-in-Paintings." “ They are garage door sized paintings that I cut a hole in so that the audience may enter the painting. Inside the painting, I build a small room that accentuates the work. They explore the grey areas between art & science. They tend to mix mosaic and thick paint, with other objects. Several are focused on the function of money and they use actual money.” Irene Abraham “I like to push together different levels of organization, and confuse distinctions between representational and abstract. Maps, graphs, puzzles, diagrams, photos of highway systems, landscapes, housing developments, circuit boards, graphs and systems of translations and codes are some of the images that get transfigured in my work.” Nancy Appleton A PhD nutritionist, an author with 5 nutrition books will will talk about her new book “Suicide By Sugar”. Helga Stark A presentation of two pieces of digital art "Sunflower" and "Underwater Life." Gerry Levine Painted photos and a small sculpture. “Art for me comes from the color, the shape, and the meaning of ordinary everyday things, find them in a wide variety of ideas which makes creating my art exciting and joyful.” Diane Stacey “My current work is at present doing large drawings on paper, using ink. sometimes stencils, dirt, and a spray from inks around plants. I am allowing images to just come froth with out censoring them, just to see what my inner world wants to show me or tell me.” Joan Kurland, a professional performer will do a song or two including her Obama parody. Event Description Join us for Art, Music, & Refreshments at the Cedros Goes CocoNUTS festival: Thursday, June 4th, 5-8 pm. Stoll the "Avenue with Everything" while enjoying a Summer Street Party & Event you don't want to miss! The humble genre of still life comes alive at Susan Street Fine Art Gallery. STILL+LIFE captivates the viewer with paintings by Frank Damiano, Page Laughlin, Stephen Dinsmore, Tom Seghi; sculptures by David Kimball Anderson and Joel Urruty. Using old traditions to richly orchestrate the combination of inanimate subject matter and intimate spaces, the artists portray life and its fleeting qualities. These works are powerful in their simplicity while projecting an aura of mystery. In the paintings of Frank Damiano, fragments of old master paintings juxtaposed with everyday objects provide the viewer with a sense of familiarity transcending the ordinary and giving the still life new life. The exhibition runs May 21st through July 12th, 2009. A reception will take place on Thursday, June 4th, from 6-9 pm, in conjunction with Cedros Goes CocoNUTS festival. For further inquiries, please contact the gallery at: www.susanstreetfineart.com / 858-793-4442. 415 So. Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, Ca, 92075.
