Event Description P. Meyer Gallery presents an exhibition of NEW monotype prints by San Diego artist Viviana Lombrozo, titled “All My Ghosts”. The exhibition will be available for viewing beginning Friday, September 11, 2009 through Saturday, October 3, 2009. The opening reception for this significant exhibition will take place on Friday, September 11, 2009, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., in conjunction with Kettner Nights presented by galleries and artists of the art and design district of Little Italy. This exhibition will consist of NEW monotypes, some with chine colle or collage. “All My Ghosts,” alludes to the faint second print, and to her own personal “ghosts” or experiences. For the last four years Lombrozo has been focusing on printmaking. She is particularly attracted to monotypes, which are created by painting or drawing directly onto a smooth, non-absorbent plate (metal, glass or acrylic), which is passed through a printing press, transferring the image to paper. Since there are no permanent marks engraved or etched into the plate, another identical image cannot be replicated. At most, a second faint image called a “ghost print” can be obtained with the small amount of remaining ink that is left on the plate after the first printing. Monotypes are non-editionable. They are essentially a printed painting. Each print is an original. Lombrozo finds it to be the most painterly and spontaneous of all printmaking techniques. It is precisely the spontaneity and the element of unpredictability that Lombrozo finds so fascinating. “It is just like real life”, she comments. “We can have the best-laid plans but we have to be prepared for surprises.” Lombrozo was born in Mexico City. She studied art at the prestigious school La Esmeralda, of the National Institute of Fine Arts. She obtained a BA in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego and has taken postgraduate courses at various institutions. Her artwork covers the diverse media of painting, sculpture, book arts, prints and textiles, to installations and site-specific pieces. A long-time San Diego artist, she has had many one-person and group shows, has won several awards, and her work is represented in private and public collections.

Event Description Scott White Contemporary Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by New York based artist, Sebastian Blanck. Blanck explores new territory in this exhibition, working from acrylic instead of oils and employing collage techniques. The composition is divided like a puzzle, each piece solidly painted onto cutout paper and then adhered to stretched paper. While Blanck made his mark in his early career painting nudes of his then girlfriend (and now wife) Isca Greenfield-Sanders, this new body of work broadens his subjects to friends and family members, all of whom are artists and musicians. His fresh technique breaths vibrancy to his established brand of genuine and intimate portraits, revealing glimpses of his private life that is accessible and relatable to his audience.
