Event Description |
Questioning the art canon or high-brow vandalism? An exhibition of paintings by Mexican artist Armando Romero. The large-scale paintings in this exhibition use parody by juxtaposing unlikely characters both real and fictional. This blending of imagery that places Batman atop an image of Siamese twins has deeper associations to the creation and transformation of contemporary culture and the effects of consumerism. Romero’s inspiration comes from his extensive knowledge of art history and American contemporary pop culture. Providing evidence of a chronology of visual culture, Romero speaks to the truth that nothing in the world of art and academia is sacred. Join us for the reception and gallery talk with guest curator Danielle Susalla at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011.
