Event Description Cirello Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming featured artist for the month of April, John Gibbons, who is debuting his new series of oceanic inspired glass vessels and sculptures. Join us for an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, April 7th from 6 - 9pm, in conjunction with the launch party of the April-June 2012 issue of the San Diego Art Guide, which features John’s glasswork on the cover. Also, join us for North Park’s Monthly Art Walk, Ray at Night, on April 14th from 6-11pm. This is the first solo show by John Gibbons at Cirello Gallery, who has been a resident artist here for over a year. John Gibbons’ Glass Ocean is the culmination of that year of work, and will be the first exhibition of his ten glass sculptures together.

Event Description Dickie Islands is an alter ego created by artist Ricardo Islas. The name Dick (Dickie) Islands is the English translation for the name Ricardo Islas. Dickie made his debut at Voz Alta on April 4th 2009 with the solo show titled, "Art for the criminally insane." Ricardo was looking for a way to create low brow art that wouldn't be tied to his other art work. The creation of Dickie Islands was a way to paint without boundaries. Dickies subject matter varies from futuristic Mexican robots to cannibalistic rabbits. His work makes you think , laugh and question the world we live in.

Event Description Running from 1:00-7:00pm at the Visual Arts Facility, UC San Diego artists will welcome the public into their studios. Open Studios is the annual pinnacle event for the MFA and Art Practice PhD students to share their artistic process and finished pieces. Visitors will be able to step inside approximately 50 artist studios and interact with the emerging talent on campus. Artists will be on site to contextualize their work and engage in conversations to deepen the viewer's understanding of their artistic practice. In conjunction with open studios, the department highlights the collaborative nature of the PhD program and the MFA program with an exhibition at the Visual Arts Facility Gallery. This exhibition explores the theme of “New Institutions” and will curated by PhD candidates Lara Bullock, Sascha Crasnow, and MFA candidate Elmira Mohebali.
