Event Description Join the Museum's Asian Arts Council on a double header bus trip to The Bowers Museum. First up, a private tour of the exhibition China’s Lost Civilization: The Mystery of Sanxingdui; an exhibition showcasing rare objects from this archeological site acknowledged as one of the greatest ever unearthed in China. Next up, tour Heavenly Horses: Two Thousand Years of Chinese and Japanese Equine Art, an exhibition featuring representation of the horse in various forms across the ages. Bus leaves Old Naval Hospital at 8:00 a.m.; pick up at La Costa Park-and-Ride at 8:30 a.m. Bus returns at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Event Description SACRA/PROFANA presents Heaven & Earth SACRA/PROFANA, San Diego’s leading professional chamber choir, presents an a cappella program. Exploring contrasts between the celestial realm and earthly experience, this concert features a new work by Canadian composer and winner of SACRA/PROFANA’s 2012 Composition Contest, Jordan Nobles. Blending the music of Gioachino Rossini and Hungarian composer György Ligeti, his composition Lux Antique uses the ancient names of stars to create a breathtaking sonic texture of spacious overtones. This is the first concert in the monthly Art of Music Concert Series, presented in conjunction with the Museum's 2015 initiative The San Diego Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years of Art in Balboa Park, and the centennial exhibition The Art of Museum.

Event Description Through the Museum’s Extended School Partnership (ESP) program, High Tech High Chula Vista art and humanities students explored the exhibitions James Drake: Anatomy of Drawing and Space (Brain Trash), This is How We Walk on the Moon: Colter Jacobsen, and Jack Whitten: Five Decades of Painting. These students created artworks and writings in response to the works on view. Join the HTHCV students in the Berglund Room at MCASD Downtown to celebrate their works. This event is held during Free Third Thursday and is free to attend.

Event Description

Former Parker students, Remington Weinger and Kate Biel are showcasing their current work in the Parker’s Rose Art Gallery. The show is called “Fantastic Lens: identity, beauty, and re-imagining reality,” as the imagery is surreal, intimate, and introspectively explores the frequently blended boundary between photographer and subject. The exhibition will be on display from now until January 23rd., with the gallery closing from Dec. 20 – Jan 4 during Parker’s Winter Break. The Rose Art Gallery will host an artist reception for Biel and Weinger on Thursday January 15th from 5-7PM. The artists will be on site and snacks and coffee will be served.
