Sparks Gallery is pleased announce a new exhibition at the gallery in 2017 that features a talented and diverse selection of sculpture chosen by The National Sculpture Society. The society was established in 1893 by the sculptors Daniel Chester French, Augustus St. Gaudens, Stanford White and J.Q.A. Ward. For more than 120 years, members have created, exhibited, collected and supported the evolving tradition in American sculpture. This juried exhibition will feature 23 top sculptors in the thriving artistic community of Southern California.

Event Description Joseph Bellows Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Route 66 Motels by John Schott (American, b. 1944). The exhibition will open on January 7 and continue through February 10, 2017. An opening reception will be held on January 7th from 6- 8pm. In the summer of 1973, John Schott drove Route 66 from the Midwest to California and back, sleeping in his pick-up truck and photographing with an 8 x 10 inch Deardorf view camera. Among his subjects were the motels situated along this expanse of highway. Route 66 Motels will present a key set of vintage prints that formed Schott’s series of topographic views of these small motels that punctuate this highway landscape, both in daylight and under the glow of artificial illumination. In this collection of vernacular forms, Schott describes a particular architectural structure, within a specific era, while subtly reminding his viewers that the road and its adjacent dwellings are part of what defines the landscape.

Event Description Space 4 Art is organizing the solo survey exhibition, A Mystical Journey: My Evolutionary Experience, of work by Barbara Gothard. In her survey exhibition, comprised of both oil paintings and an installation artwork, Gothard explores contradictions and expansion.  Her artwork reflects her imagination in the context of the colors and expansiveness of her desert environment.  Gothard’s  complex compositions investigate and contrast recognizable imagery with dream-like metaphors of symbolic hurdles.  Yet, upon closer observation, carefully composed compositions reshape focus and perception.
