Join the Timken for a special day at The Huntington Library, Art Collection, and Botanical Gardens. Experience The Huntington - one of the world’s great cultural, research, and educational centers - like never before! The day will include a 90-minute outdoor walking tour that will let you explore some of the 120 acres of magnificent gardens. You will learn how Henry and Arabella Huntington’s San Marino Ranch was transformed into the world famous cultural landmark that we know today. In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to view one of the most iconic artworks in British and American history, The Blue Boy, made around 1770 by English painter Thomas Gainsborough. The work is undergoing its first major technical examination and conservation treatment in public view, in a special satellite conservation studio. You will learn about the technical processes of a senior conservator working on the famous painting as well as background on its history, mysteries, and artistic virtues. |
