BREAKTHROUGH: The Nineties A 1990's-Costume-Filled Evening of Spoken Word, Live Music & Dance Performances, Visual Arts, Great Wine, and Delicious Food. SAT. September 21, 2019 7PM-10PM $25-$40 IDEA1 (Please use F. Street Entrance) 899 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101 - This quarterly Spoken Word Series will be themed around catalytic moments in the history of art, fashion, science, music, pop culture and more. Each event includes delicious food, live music, spoken word, dance, and visual arts - all themed around a specific historical era. Co-produced in partnership with CA Poet Laureate Nominee Gill Sotu. Guests are encouraged to dress in costume of each era. This episode will be themed around The Nineties. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Event Description

The 2nd annual ArtWalk Carlsbad will return to Armada Drive to bring immersive art experiences, visual arts and live music to North County on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday,September 22. The ticketed fine arts festival will elevate the grounds above the Carlsbad Flower Fields as chalk artists create temporary masterpieces live and more than 175 visual artists showcase and sell their unique art pieces.Art enthusiasts can explore every medium of art including painting, sculpture, glass work, fine jewelry, photography and more. Attendees can also enjoy live entertainment, a wine and beer pavilion, street food options, interactive art experiences; KidsWalk, a family-friendly interactive art area, and more!The fine art festival supports ArtWalk’s non-profit partner, ArtReach which delivers high-quality art education to K-8 schools throughout San Diego. Kids 16 and under are free. This is also the launch venue for Open Your Hearts to North County Arts...check out visual and performing arts happening the whole month of October at www.sdncan.org

Event Description

An evening with Tijuana-based film critic, Cuauhtémoc Ruelas, in celebration of the release of his new book, Tijuana, La esquina del cine. Vol. 2. Ruelas’ book provides context and commentary for Tijuana’s burgeoning film scene as well as movie reviews. A conversation with the author will precede the presentation of two films featured in Ruelas’ book, the short film Microcastillo and the feature length film, Mente Revolver. Filmmakers’ participation pending, and will be announced prior to this special presentation. Conversation with Ruelas will be in Spanish; films will be presented in Spanish w/ English subtitles.
