Event Description The international conservation group WILDCOAST will host Baja Bash, a two-part event to raise awareness and funds for its ocean conservation and climate action programs. On October 1, the in-person Baja Bash will take place at a Solana Beach Private Estate, overlooking the lagoon and coast, where guests will celebrate WILDCOAST’s critical conservation work in Mexico and California. The Baja Bash event will then kick off the week-long KEEP IT WILD virtual auction from October 1-7 featuring incredible artwork from both sides of the border. Both events are open to the public. Proceeds from both the in-person and online event will benefit WILDCOAST's continued efforts to conserve the most threatened coastal and ocean habitats and wildlife in California and Mexico and tackle climate change.

Event Description Over the past 25 years, OMA has presented over 300 diverse and engaging exhibitions that reflect their core interest to explore the stories of Southern California artists. Legacy: 25 Years of Art and Community is a survey of artwork selected from many of OMA’s past exhibitions. Compelling pieces from landmark community-building exhibits such as Worn with Pride (2000), Chouinard: A Living Legacy (2001), Artifacts: Allied Craftsmen of San Diego (2018), Lowbrow Art: Nine San Diego Pop Surrealists (2009), and Masterpieces of San Diego Painting: Fifty Works from Fifty Years, 1900-1950 (2008), will tell the story of how a volunteer-based organization grew from its humble beginnings in 1997 to the cultural destination it is today. Featuring work by James Hubbell, Wendy Murayama, William Glen Crooks, Allison Renshaw, Italo Scanga, and Charles Arnoldi, among others, this exhibition will create new narratives while remembering the seminal role OMA has played in the history of contemporary art.

Event Description "Beside Herself is a journey of personal exploration concerning a difficult childhood and adolescence. My paintings are all in some way autobiographical, but additionally, they embody comparisons between my personal and contemporary young women’s issues concerning identity development, emotionality, connection and communication, introspection, family dynamics, and female relationships. They address these issues through the specifics of contemporary young women’s body language, gestures, gaze, interaction, and clothing choices. My series of shoe paintings represent the playful style choices of young women. I portray these young women as individuals and place them in minimalistic interior environments or exterior non-environments. I show a specific quality and direction of light to emphasize the mood of each painting. My figurative paintings are painted in oil on canvas or linen and are primarily created using the Zorn limited palette.

Event Description At the Women’s Museum of California’s October First Saturday program (October 1 from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm), we invite the public to learn about the history of witchcraft, its connection to the modern feminist movement and connect with the knowledge of the natural world that our foremothers once used. Throughout history, women have used knowledge of herbs, moon cycles, and connections to nature for medicine, cooking, midwifery, and spiritual practices. Unfortunately women, mostly indigenous, non-Christian, or non-white women, have had these home remedies and practices weaponized against them with false accusations of witchcraft and harm to society. Visitors will learn about herbs and make their own herbal candles. The free activity will allow visitors to learn about herbal properties and personalize their candles by anointing them with herbs.
