Opportunity Description |
The San Diego Museum of Art is seeking dedicated art-lovers to become docents and join the Museum's most active volunteer corps. A new docent training program is beginning in January 2006, and will teach art history and touring techniques, as well as how to lead various art workshops and programs. Bi-lingual applicants are especially encouraged to apply.
The one-and-a-half year long training program meets two mornings a week with a three-month break in the summer. The course includes an art history survey and in-depth research of the Museum’s permanent collection, including Asian, contemporary, American, and European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century. The class also teaches touring techniques, preparing docents for the various museum tours they will lead.
An informational tea to introduce and answer questions about the docent program will be held on Tuesday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Museum. To RSVP for the tea or to receive an application, please call Cornelia Feye, manager of docent programs, at (619) 696-1953, or e-mail cfeye@sdmart.org. Interviews will be held this fall. |
