Opportunity Description |
1805 Gallery is seeking contemporary artists for gallery exhibitions, artist residencies, and events held at 1805 Gallery as well as offsite venues.
RESIDENCY
The Artist Residency program is an opportunity for emerging artists of all media to exhibit work and explore concepts unique to their practice within an open studio and gallery space in San Diego. The goal is for an artist to begin or continue to investigate themes related to their practice.
The street level gallery space is located on the corner of Columbia Street and Elm Street in the Little Italy district of San Diego and offers a unique experience for both artist and audience to interact. While historically artist residency programs are designed to isolate the artist, 1805 Gallery provides an opportunity for the artist to integrate their art practice into the everyday happenings of an urban setting.
Selected artists receive an exhibition of selected works and 24 hour access to the studio gallery throughout the residency. 1805 Gallery does not provide housing or a living stipend. Artists must be self-sufficient and provide all of their necessary supplies. The space includes air conditioning, gallery track lighting, security system, wireless internet, street parking, and is situated a block away from the Blick Art Store and over fifty cafes and restaurants. The residency provides an opportunity for the artist to experiment with new ideas while engaging the local community.
HOW TO APPLY
To be considered artists must submit images of recent work, a clear statement about what they wish to work on while in residence. Artists are asked to include additional information regarding what drives or influences their project, what themes they wish to explore and why they think the project or its subject matter are crucial and urgent today.
