Event Description The closing event of the JFGM exhibition, “Beyond Urushi,” has been an incredible journey of creativity, exploration, and connection. Join us for special themes and stories that have inspired this Exhibition. This event will introduce the activities of its representative, Takuya Tsutsumi, while exploring the lifestyle of 'living in harmony with nature,' as taught by lacquer. Through the screening of short films, lectures, and interactive exchanges, enjoy a moment of appreciating the connection between nature and culture.

Event Description Join us in this creative session where participants design and create mandalas - geometric patterns symbolizing unity and balance. Included is an introduction to mandalas, guidance on materials and techniques, hands on design time, mindfulness and opportunities for sharing and reflection. Event Description Tired of mass-produced holiday decor from big box stores! Unleash your creativity this season with this relaxing workshop designed to inspire your inner artist. Learn various techniques: paper collage, creating texture with modeling pastes and stencils, building layers of color with distress ink and adding vintage costume jewelry 3D effects. All materials are provided. A $25 material fee is due to the instructor on the day of the workshop. We will create mixed media collage on wood panel with vintage paper doll images, focusing on your choice of holiday theme. Goodbye generic decorations and hello to one-of-a-kind holiday art. Please bring eyeglasses and any special beads you wish to use.

Event Description The winter series opens on Sunday, January 26, with the return of celebrated Venezuelan pianist-composer-arranger Edward Simon, joined by his longtime trio members bassist Reuben Rogers (also known for his work with Charles Lloyd) and drummer Adam Cruz (also known for his work with Danilo Pérez). Simon’s last Athenaeum performance as a leader was with his project Femeninas: Songs of Latin American Women, which featured vocalist Magos Herrera. He returns to the library to celebrate the release of a new trio album, Latin American Songbook, vol. 2, which has a special focus on the Afro-Caribbean musical traditions of his native Venezuela.
