Here's something that might surprise you: color is essentially value in disguise. Color=Value. This idea becomes the crucial bridge when you’re transitioning from drawing to painting, regardless of your medium. It’s not always an immediate connection—color has this seductive quality, especially when it’s rich and saturated, that can completely captivate your attention and make you forget about the underlying structure.
I want to share some practical tools that can help you see through color’s enchanting surface to reveal the values beneath. Most people know about the three fundamental attributes of color: hue, value, and chroma. But there’s actually a fourth player that’s equally important: temperature. Getting the temperature relationships right is often what separates paintings that feel balanced and believable from those that somehow feel “off.”

Fun and fast paced, life drawing is a wonderful way to be in the moment. Learn how to draw the human figure, hone your existing skills, and develop some new ones.
This class is for all levels of skill.
Materials: Newsprint pad, 18” x 24”; soft vine charcoal; kneaded eraser. You are welcome to bring along any materials not on the list that you already have and would like to use. The instructor will provide some unusual art supplies with which to experiment.

Join us for the opening reception of “Once in a Blue Moon”, an exhibition of new paintings by acclaimed artists Heather McKey and Virginie Mazureau at Distinction Gallery.
We are thrilled to present this latest showcase of contemporary surrealism by two artists we have proudly represented for years. The featured works are a remarkable addition to each artist’s oeuvre. Both draw inspiration from the natural world, rearranging familiar forms in startlingly original ways. Join Instructor Suzanne Balestri for a fun day in the Glass Studio creating fused glass art that YOU want to create. The sky’s the limit with options such as wall vases, coasters, trays, plates, decorative tiles, and/or cabochons for jewelry pieces, etc. All students will receive video links to demonstrations prior to the class so you can become familiar with several techniques before getting to work. If you’ve taken a fused glass class previously, this is a great opportunity to hone your skills and challenge yourself! You’ll have access to a large selection of glass and embellishments and project ideas and templates will be provided for those who desire a more structured format.
