Event Description

Learn how to create amazing prints without a press.Experience the joy and immediacy of “pulling” an encaustic monotype from a heated encaustic palette. You’ll draw with pigmented wax and incorporate spontaneous mark making that will ignite your creativity and intuition. The results are astonishing and rewarding. In this two-day workshop, you’ll learn about setting up a studio, safety measures, paper types and how to use wax medium, pigment, graphite, string, India ink and charcoal in your prints. You’ll have a wide range of mark making tools and have plenty of time to experiment and discover how to create your favorite marks and drawings. Each day will include demonstrations, individual assistance, Q&A, troubleshooting and plenty of individual time to work.

Papermaking is a process involving many techniques, materials, methods, and tools to create not only a potential surface for art, but art itself! Learn the basics of paper making! From pulp making to pigments and dyes, and even how to source materials. In this two hour workshop, participants will learn how to select and prepare your raw materials for paper making and basic coloration methods, creating paper pulp and different consistencies that work for your desired result. You will also learn how to use Molds & Deckles and create individual paper sheets!

Event Description

Micro mosaics are created from tiny fragments of tesserae*, generally made from glass or enamel, set to form small pictures. Giacomo Raffaelli is the artist considered to be the founding father of micro mosaic jewelry. He hosted his first selling exhibition of micro mosaics at his studio in Rome in 1775. Many artists followed suit and created beautiful micro mosaics as souvenirs for the wealthy who visited Italy. This trend was popular from the 17th-19th centuries. Sadly, by the turn of the 20th century, micro mosaics lost their appeal as the Art Deco movement became the trend of the time. Micro mosaic jewelry can still be found to this day in Italy, sold popularly as a souvenirIn this micro mosaic class, participants will have the opportunity to create their own designed micro mosaic pendants. Instructor Yolanda Gutierrez will not only guide and teach the trade, but also how to use tools like the Leponitt Glass Mosaic Cutter to achieve intricate cuts and shapes for your masterpieces
