“Drawing on Abstraction” is an update of my popular class: Realism to Abstraction: Breaking Down and Zooming In.
The original title is still accurate; however, honing the title and refining the content reflects new insights and ideas that spring from my constant investigations in art and abstraction in particular. To “draw” on abstraction means to use it as a starting point or a destination; taking in the possibilities along the way.
This accessible art class for kiln workers will be of interest to artists such as printmakers and painters or anyone for whom visual expression in glass is desired. The content is easily translatable to other media. Starting with their own images, photos, clippings, etc., students will examine why certain imagery appeals to them, how to isolate the potency of the image, dissect, vary and ultimately move toward meaningful abstraction. Drawings, paper cut outs and/or test pieces, will be the basis for a series of projects in the class and beyond. |
