Event Description |
The Hero’s Journey is the epic structure defined by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces (Campbell, 1987). It’s a very common narrative plot underlying many popular epic movies and books like Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Black Panther, Alice in Wonderland, etc.
The Hero's Journey is often used to symbolize healing and growth by using metaphorical circumstances, mystery, wonder, and archetypes involving a hero character who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis finds resources, wins a victory, and then comes home transformed, wiser, stronger.
You will use hands-on mixed-media processes in an altered book/visual journal or create a treasure box with 'recipe' cards, symbolically holding your thoughts, experiences, and emotions as a safe container, then witnessing your own growth and transformation through your cancer journey. It is a playful and satisfying process, a great way to tell your own story.
Open to 12 cancer patients /survivors to attend in person, and more via Zoom. Fridays 5/3, 10, 17 & 24 |
