| Event Description |
Bread & Salt is proud to present Noncompliant, a solo exhibition by Tatiana Ortiz-Rubio. This exhibition marks a significant milestone in the artist’s relationship with the Bread & Salt Gallery. Ortiz-Rubio was a 2018 Bread & Salt IMPACT Artist-in-Residence, and Noncompliant will be the first time the gallery presents her
work in a solo exhibition.
Noncompliant explores the social construct of time and its incompatibility with the lived realities of human bodies, disability, and illness—also known as Crip Time. Deeply autobiographical, the works act as witness to specific moments in which time has been questioned, broken, lost, and forcefully redefined in order to allow for the crip experience to exist within constructed social systems. This series of work stands as an intimate investigation into the ways we assign value to human life and lived time.
